Joining the band

New and returning pipers and drummers of every level are welcome. Come along to any Tuesday practice to meet the band. Members pay a modest annual fee, and the band provides a uniform kit to pipers and drummers: the Hunting McGregor tartan, Argyll jacket and vest, and black balmoral.

How a practice night works

  1. First hourChanter workThe first hour is chanter work, in small groups or as one big group around the table.
  2. BreakCoffee breakTime to put the kettle on and socialise.
  3. Second hourFull bandThe second hour is full band on full instruments, led by the Pipe Major.

Booking the band

We are available for full band performances, mini bands (2-4 pipers and drummers), or individuals for weddings, funerals, and celebrations. Fees will be based on event duration, location, and band size required.

Most of our bookings are for a solo piper, and we are always happy to talk through what would suit your event.

Key dates

We're engaged in various events beyond those listed below. We offer support to other bands by augmenting their numbers when needed, organize small band performances, and cater to private gigs. We also plan for 'Pop Up' practices at various locations.

Band executive

The SPPB operates under the Societies Act of BC. Our organization relies on its board to function effectively, and plan out our year. The board is elected each year, and currently consists of:
