While the whole band is saddened by the departure of our much-loved teacher Angus, we’re embracing this moment as an opportunity to evolve. For the past few months, the Executive has been discussing new ways to support our learners—and enhance learning for every member.
We’re excited to introduce a new three-fold approach to Tuesday night practices:

1. Small Group Integration: Learners will arrive a little early and sit with more experienced members in small groups. This peer-based approach helps newer pipers ease into playing with the full band, drawing on the wisdom and support of those who’ve been through it all before.

2. One-on-One Instruction: Focused lessons will cover not just playing, but also essential skills like bagpipe maintenance, tuning, and setup. While learners receive this one-on-one attention, the rest of the band will gather for focused work on unison playing and tackling some of our more complex tunes.
3. Full Instrument Practice: To close out the night, we come together as a full band—pipes up and drones humming. The Pipe Major will lead the session, refining tone, strengthening unison, and continuing our collective growth.
This new format is all about building stronger pipers and drummers, and an even more cohesive band. We’re excited about this next chapter and look forward to seeing the benefits unfold for learners and seasoned players alike.
